Indie Overdrive - An IndieCulture.com Production

Indie Culture's first major event was held last April 20 at IC's Bar and Cafe in Los Banos. Ofcourse, Save Alex Movement was there! Thanks for inviting us guys! 


The band played 3 songs, cut from the original 4 that they prepared so that other bands could still have ample time to play. Two of the three songs were rehearsed just the day before the event, and was pulled off quite, well, good enough (thank God not much noticed our mistakes! hehehe). SAM did a cover from Duffy, a song called 'Mercy', and two songs from Hall and Oates, 'Kiss on My List' and 'I Can't Go For That'.

UP Jammers' Club's Pound 4 Pound XVII: Wreck and Roll

This year's Pound 4 Pound was held at the LB Square in Lwata Bar with about 14 or so bands performing... Ofcourse Save Alex Movement was there!

December 8, 2011 Gig at the Social Garden

This was a gig of firsts! It was the first time we played without one member (Eric, who was down with the flu), was the first time we played a 30-minute set (6 songs all in all), and this was our first paying gig!

We got to the venue a little late, some of the other bands had started to perform already (the first and second group did 3 songs). We almost didn't play when the organizer said we could play only one song! But it was just a little miscommunication--we were still playing the originally planned 5 songs, after their welcoming program.

We started out with a Fiona Apple cover of "Criminal" which got off a little shaky but we managed to catch up to tempo soon enough. Other songs got the crowd pleased as we played familiar tunes to the "young once" (the audience is composed mainly of graduate students and faculty), with some Hall and Oates and Alan Parson's Project covers. We were to end the set with "Love On The Rocks" by Sara Bareilles but had to extend by one song since they loved us so much! Haha! So we ended up playing Adele's "Right As Rain" for our last song.

We were happy to have gone thru the gig smoothly without Eric, albeit a little bumpy start and quirky keyboard solos that weren't supposed to be. But then the organizer approached us and handed over some...cash! Now that was a little unexpected, and was truly appreciated.

Save Alex SESSIONS (Volume 1)

The Save Alex Studios (also known as The Sunday Room)

It's been quite a while since the band got together to jam, the last one being in August... Since then, they have put up a little space where they can "freely" hone their sound and rehearse without time constraints (themselves being their only limit).

So for the first time, they practiced at the Save Alex Studios a.k.a. the Sunday Room--a small rehearsal studio space beside 10-0-71 Digital Post. It is a space they share with another band, Sunday Brew, wherein they all pitched in to complete the equipment needed in the space.

SAM is rehearsing for upcoming gigs this December 8 and 9, with about 6 to 7 songs on the line up. Watch out for SAM's upcoming video blog coming soon!

Live at Freashmeat 2011

Here's the performance at the UP Jammers' Club's Freashmeat 2011 held at the Seniors' Social Garden last August 18, 2011.

The band did 2 cover songs from Fiona Apple (Criminal) and Adele (Right As Rain). The set was cut short since the band was the last to play among 11 others lined up for the night which included Embercore and the Last Action Heroes, among others. Nonetheless, it was well worth the wait! Watch out for upcoming gigs SOON!

The First Gig at IC's Bar

August 12, 2011 marked the first time Save Alex Movement played in front of a live audience at IC's Bar and Cafe. This was actually the second time the band came out (the first one earlier on the same day at a Humanities 2 class), after at least 3 rehearsal sessions both at a studio and the Soliven residence. They played covers from No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Adele (Right as Rain: see video below), and the New Radicals. They were thrilled to have finally come out and played, as this gig was in preparation for the UP Jammers' Club's Freshmeat, an event showcasing the talents of the club's members to the new incoming freshmen of the University.

The night was well attended as it was a Friday night, and friends of the band eagerly anticipated what their sound would be like. Fortunately enough, they did not disappoint. Now, they are one of UPLB's local bands to watch out for.
